Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri inaugurated an integrated rural development project in Nangal Kalan, Haroli assembly constituency, on Wednesday. The project is a collaboration between Nestle India and the SM Sahgal Foundation. A nutrition booklet aimed at spreading awareness about nutrition and hygiene was also released during the event.
Project Details and Impact
The project will be implemented in six villages of Haroli development block: Nangal Kalan, Nangal Khurd, Gondpur Jaychand, Haroli, Dulaihad, and Bathadi. It will address key areas including water conservation, sanitation, agriculture, nutrition, education, school upgradation, skill development, and community empowerment. More than 9,000 residents across these villages are expected to benefit from the initiative.
Statements from Deputy CM
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy CM Agnihotri recalled that when he was chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Housing Board, the land was acquired for a residential colony. Later, a proposal came to set up a Nestle plant in Tahliwala, and the land was made available for the industry. He noted that over the past 16 years, the plant has significantly contributed to industrial development and employment generation in the region.
Agnihotri urged Nestle India Chairman and Managing Director Manish Tiwari to expand the Tahliwala unit, expressing his desire that among all Nestle units in the country, the Tahliwala unit should achieve the highest production. He assured that the state government would provide all possible support for the expansion.
CSR and Local Development
The Deputy CM emphasized that industries operating in Haroli should prioritize local area development under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. He stated, "Industries working here should give priority to the development of the local area under their CSR. The benefit of CSR should first go to the people of this area." He directed the industry department and the Haroli Industrial Association to jointly prepare an action plan in this regard.
