Key Facts

Kandara village, located in Oda Panchayat of Chamba district, remains without road connectivity. Residents have to carry sick individuals on their backs or makeshift stretchers for about two kilometers to reach the main road. This has become a critical issue, especially during medical emergencies.

Details of the Problem

Despite claims of development, Kandara village continues to face severe infrastructure challenges. The lack of a road forces villagers to navigate difficult terrain when someone falls ill. Patients are carried by four to five people using temporary stretchers or simply on someone's back. This arduous journey often delays hospital visits, worsening the patient's condition and putting lives at risk.

Villagers have expressed their frustration, stating that they have been demanding road construction for years but have only received assurances. Harsh Kumar, a local resident, said, “When a person falls ill, there is worry about reaching the hospital. Due to lack of road, the patient has to be carried on the back. The government should find a permanent solution to the problem.”

Aashish Kumar added, “We have been demanding road construction for years but only get assurances. Now the patience of the villagers is also running out.” Ravi Kumar emphasized, “Road facility is our right. The administration should monitor the situation and start construction work soon so that no patient's life is put at risk.” Ravindra Kumar shared his experience, “We have had to carry sick persons on our backs to the main road many times. The administration and government have not been able to solve this problem.”

Impact on Daily Life

The absence of a road affects every aspect of life in Kandara. Beyond medical emergencies, it hampers access to education, markets, and other essential services. Children have to walk long distances to school, and farmers struggle to transport their produce. The village remains isolated, especially during monsoons when the paths become treacherous.

Official Response

Kanav Badhotra, Acting Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department, stated, “The department is working in a planned manner on this matter. Efforts will be made soon to connect the villagers with road facility.” However, villagers remain skeptical, given the long history of unfulfilled promises.
