Key Facts

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) released the re-evaluation results for Class 12 on June 21, with many students reporting substantial increases in their scores. Over 1.6 lakh candidates had applied for re-evaluation, and results for 1.39 lakh have been declared so far. The remaining outcomes are expected in phases.

Details of Marks Increase

A student from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, saw his Physics score rise from 71 to 90 out of 100 after re-evaluation. The theory marks increased from 41 to 60, while practical marks remained unchanged. In a private school in West Bengal, at least six students experienced significant revisions in History. One student's score jumped from 74 to 97, and another from 72 to 87. A teacher noted that many students had already completed college admissions based on old marks, and the school topper has changed.

In Odisha, a student gained 12 marks in Chemistry and 5 in English, while a Delhi student received a 5-mark increase in History.

Issues with On-Screen Marking

The CBSE implemented on-screen marking (OSM) for the first time this academic year, leading to complaints of blurry answer sheets, missing pages, and incorrect evaluation. An evaluator described the process as a 'complete mess,' citing incomplete scanning and lack of computer proficiency among teachers in remote areas. The CBSE has stated that wherever marks deviate from the marking scheme, corrections are made through re-evaluation.

Process and Fee Reductions

The CBSE reduced fees for post-result services: scanned copies from ₹700 to ₹100, verification of issues from ₹500 to ₹100, and re-evaluation from ₹100 to ₹25 per question. Fees are refunded if marks increase. Candidates whose verification showed 'no change' can inspect answer books at regional offices. Revised mark sheets are uploaded on Digilocker, but physical copies have not yet been confirmed.

What Students Should Know

Students who applied for re-evaluation should check their Digilocker accounts for updated marks. The CBSE has not released official data on how many applicants saw score increases. Supplementary examination notifications are expected soon.
