Key Facts

In response to the heightened risk of waterborne diseases during the monsoon, the Himachal Pradesh Health Department has issued a disease alert for the Mandi district. Special surveillance and awareness campaigns have been launched in the Padhar and Lad Bhadrol health blocks, deploying over 200 ASHA workers to conduct door-to-door surveys and educate residents.

Details of the Campaign

The initiative covers more than 60 panchayats under seven primary health centers and the Jogindernagar Civil Hospital. Key areas include Lad Bhadrol, Chauntra, Balh, Joli, and others in the Jogindernagar region, as well as Padhar, Barot, Loharadi, Sudhar, and Badagaon in the Drang area. ASHA workers are identifying potential patients and spreading awareness about using clean drinking water and maintaining hygiene.

Focus on Prevention

Health teams are also instructing panchayat representatives and secretaries to ensure the cleanliness of natural water sources. Hospitals are screening patients presenting with high fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Suspected cases are being advised to undergo Hepatitis-A testing.

Impact on Local Communities

The proactive measures aim to prevent outbreaks of diarrhea, dengue, and jaundice, which typically spike during the rainy season due to contaminated water and mosquito breeding. By involving local health workers and community leaders, the department hopes to contain any potential spread early.

What Residents Should Know

  • Drink only boiled or purified water.
  • Consume ORS solution if dehydration occurs.
  • Do not allow water to stagnate around homes to prevent mosquito breeding.
  • Visit the nearest health facility immediately if symptoms like fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or jaundice appear.
