The television anime adaptation of Yūki Suenaga and Takamasa Moue's manga Akane-banashi has been officially renewed for a second season, set to premiere in January 2027. The announcement was made on Saturday, coinciding with the conclusion of the first season's Karaku Cup Arc.

To celebrate the renewal, character designer Shinta Arakawa shared a special illustration. Additionally, six new cast members were revealed for characters introduced in the final episode of season one.

Story and Setting

The second season continues the story of Akane Osaki, a high school student inspired by her father's rakugo performances. After witnessing a shocking incident during his promotion attempt to shin'uchi master rank, Akane decides to pursue the same path. The series is described as a passionate and authentic rakugo drama.

The first season was directed by Shinta Arakawa at studio Shuka, with assistant director Suenaga. Character design and chief animation direction were handled by Moue. Series scripts were overseen by Akane Osaki, and music was composed by Shinta Arakawa. A rakugo supervisor was also involved to ensure authenticity.
