The page, titled 'Sourav Ganguly Fans', describes itself as an unofficial fan page but has been posting material that Ganguly claims is intended to harm his reputation.

Details of the Complaint

In his complaint dated June 15, 2026, Ganguly stated that the page has been continuously sharing posts that are 'intended to malign my reputation and create a negative impression among the public.' The page boasts over 3.6 million followers, amplifying the reach of the allegedly false and damaging material.

Ganguly emphasized that while he accepts criticism as part of public life, the deliberate spread of misleading and defamatory content crosses a line. 'Being a public figure, I understand that opinions and criticism are a part of public life; however, spreading misleading, defamatory, and damaging content with the intention of harming my reputation is unacceptable and requires appropriate legal action,' he said in the complaint.

Legal Action Sought

The former cricketer has urged the police to identify the individuals or group operating the page and take action under relevant legal provisions. He specifically requested: 'I therefore request you to kindly register my complaint against the individuals/group operating this page and take necessary action as per the applicable laws.'

Ganguly also called for immediate steps to prevent further circulation of such content on social media platforms, asking authorities to 'take immediate necessary action to prevent further misuse of social media platforms to damage my reputation.'
