HAS Exam Stages and Documents to Keep Ready

Updated Oct 11, 2026

Stages Named in a Typical Advertisement

Himachal Pradesh Administrative Service (HAS) and allied posts are advertised by the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission. The exact stage list, order, and weightage are always set out in the advertisement for that cycle. Treat the points below as a reading checklist, not as a fixed syllabus.

  • Preliminary examination — usually two objective papers, commonly described as general studies and aptitude. It is normally a screening stage.
  • Main written examination — descriptive papers, often including essay, general studies, and optional or qualifying language papers. The paper list varies by post and cycle.
  • Personality test or interview — conducted for candidates who clear the mains stage, subject to the ratio and cut-off stated in the advertisement.
  • Document verification — sometimes held alongside or after the interview, and sometimes before it. The advertisement says which.
  • Medical examination — where the post rules require it, usually after selection is recommended.
  • Final merit list — prepared as per the weightage given in the advertisement, then published on the Commission website.

Read the notice in this order: number of stages, papers in each stage, marks per paper, qualifying marks, negative marking if any, and the weightage of the interview. Do not assume that one cycle's pattern carries over to the next.

Confirm every stage, date, and mark on the official website: https://hppsc.hp.gov.in/

Documents to Keep Ready

Most delays at HPPSC stages come from documents, not from the exam. Keep a single folder, scanned and physical, and refresh it each cycle.

  • Application copy — the submitted online form and its acknowledgement or registration number.
  • Photographs and signature — recent passport photos in the size the notice asks for, plus a clean signature scan.
  • Matriculation certificate — usually the base proof of date of birth and name.
  • Educational certificates — all mark sheets and degrees from matriculation onward, including the qualifying degree for the post.
  • Category certificate — SC, ST, OBC, EWS, or other reservation claim, in the prescribed format and within validity.
  • Bonafide Himachali certificate — where the post or the advertisement requires it.
  • Experience certificates — only if the post carries an experience requirement.
  • Photo identity proof — the same one used in the application, carried to every stage.
  • No objection certificate — for candidates already in government service, if the rules ask for it.
  • Fee payment proof — receipt or transaction reference, kept even after the form is submitted.

Certificate formats, validity periods, and the exact list differ by post and category. Always match your folder against the advertisement for your cycle, and confirm the requirement on https://hppsc.hp.gov.in/ before you rely on it.
