Starlink, Elon Musk’s satellite internet service, may charge about ₹33,000 for its equipment kit and ₹3,000 to ₹4,200 a month for unlimited data in India, according to a report published on 6 November 2026. The prices are reported, not confirmed — Starlink has not announced its India pricing, and the service is not commercially available in India yet.

The report, published by Gadgets360, says the Starlink Standard Kit costs around ₹33,000 as a one-time payment, with unlimited data plans expected at ₹3,000 to ₹4,200 a month. Speeds are reported at 25 to 220 Mbps, and the service is said to have a 2 million user cap for India.

What is confirmed

  • Starlink received a GMPCS licence from the Department of Telecommunications in June 2025, valid for 20 years, to operate satellite internet services in India.
  • It received a five-year licence from IN-SPACe (Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre) on 8 July 2025.
  • Its first-generation constellation has 4,408 satellites in low Earth orbit at 540 to 570 kilometres, with a capacity of up to 600 Gbps over India.
  • On 3 November 2026, Starlink said it is ready to connect India, and that it has built India-specific systems, gateways and infrastructure.
  • The service is operational in India’s neighbours Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka (since July 2025).

What is still pending

  • Spectrum assignment by the Department of Telecommunications is still pending.
  • Final security clearance is still awaited.
  • No launch date has been announced.

Jio’s satellite arm and Eutelsat OneWeb have also received licences and face the same remaining checkpoints, so the race for satellite broadband in India is still open.

Why the price is uncertain

Starlink’s India pricing has been reported differently by different sources, and one earlier figure was wrong:

  • An earlier report of ₹8,600 a month turned out to be a website glitch and was withdrawn. Starlink has not announced any price.
  • Other estimates have put the kit at ₹60,000 and the monthly plan at ₹3,500.
  • The latest report of ₹33,000 for the kit and ₹3,000 to ₹4,200 a month is also unconfirmed.

Until Starlink announces prices on its own website, treat every figure as a report, not a fact.

Who will use it

Satellite internet matters most for areas where fibre and mobile broadband do not reach — remote villages, mountain areas, border posts and ships at sea. In Himachal Pradesh, where many villages in Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur and Chamba sit beyond the reach of fibre, satellite broadband could bring reliable internet to homes, schools and health centres that today depend on slow mobile data.

Starlink’s service works through a small dish that connects to satellites passing overhead, so it does not need cables or mobile towers. The trade-off is cost: the kit and monthly charges are far higher than a typical fibre or 5G connection, so it is likely to be used first by businesses, government offices and users in areas with no other option.
