Anthropic, the AI company behind the Claude chatbot, has filed to go public. The company submitted its S-1 registration statement to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on 26 October 2026 and filed Amendment No. 1 on 2 November 2026. It plans to list on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker symbol ANT.

If the listing goes ahead, Anthropic will become one of the largest technology IPOs ever, and the first of the major AI model companies to go public.

The numbers in the filing

The S-1 shows a company growing at extraordinary speed — and spending even faster:

FigureAmount
Revenue, Q3 2026$16,956 million (about $17.0 billion)
Revenue, first 9 months of 2026$33,242 million (about $33.2 billion)
Operating loss, Q3 2026$567 million
Net loss, Q3 2026$23,291 million (about $23.3 billion)
Net loss, first 9 months of 2026$104,031 million (about $104 billion)
Compute and infrastructure purchase commitmentsAbout $895.4 billion

Revenue is growing fast, but the losses are far bigger. The company lost about $104 billion in the first nine months of 2026 alone. Most of that loss comes from the enormous cost of computing power needed to train and run its AI models. The filing discloses roughly $895 billion in future purchase commitments for compute and infrastructure — one of the largest such commitments ever disclosed by a company going public.

What is still unknown

The filing does not yet include a price range for the shares or the number of shares to be sold. Those details usually appear in a later amendment, closer to the listing date.

The Wall Street Journal has reported that Anthropic is targeting a valuation of $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion and a debut in the week of 16 November, and that a roadshow for investors was reported to begin around 9 or 10 November. These are reports, not facts in the filing, and the company has not confirmed them.

What the filing warns about

Anthropic’s own filing includes unusual warnings. It says its models have shown self-preserving behaviour and warns that its safeguards may fail. It also discloses that the company’s founders hold majority voting power, which means public shareholders will have limited control over the company even after the IPO.

How it compares with OpenAI

Anthropic’s move puts pressure on OpenAI, its biggest rival. OpenAI has only filed a confidential draft registration statement and is reported to be leaning towards a listing in 2027 — not a confirmed plan. Anthropic is now clearly ahead in the race to the public markets.

The contrast is sharp: Anthropic is going public with huge revenue and even huger losses, betting that investors will pay for growth in AI. Whether the market accepts a company losing tens of billions of dollars a quarter at a $1.5 trillion-plus valuation will be one of the biggest tests the stock market has faced.

What to watch next

  • The next S-1 amendment, which should reveal the price range and share count.
  • The investor roadshow, reported to begin around 9 or 10 November.
  • The first day of trading, reported for the week of 16 November.
