Waymo will end its exclusivity with Uber in Austin and Atlanta from January 2028 and offer rides through its own app. Co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana told Bloomberg (reported 4 November 2026) that riders requesting a Waymo via Uber had no guarantee of getting one.
What changes
- Waymo rides in Austin and Atlanta will be bookable directly in the Waymo app from January 2028
- Until now, riders in those cities could only get a Waymo through Uber — and might get a human-driven car instead
Not a full breakup
Uber confirmed to TechCrunch it still plans to host Waymo robotaxis as long as both agree. The current contract runs to May 2028.
Waymo today
- 500,000+ paid driverless trips per week
- Around 4,000 vehicles
- 15 US cities
