Apple’s new App Store rules will require an 18+ rating for dating apps and AI companions that offer sexual or romantic content, as reported by TechCrunch on 5 November 2026.
What changes
- Dating apps and AI companion apps with sexual or romantic content will need to be rated 18+ on the App Store.
- The move tightens age rules for apps where users can form romantic or sexual relationships with AI characters or other users.
Why it matters
AI companion apps have grown fast, and regulators and parents have raised concerns about young users forming attachments to AI characters or being exposed to adult content. Apple’s 18+ rule puts these apps in the same age bracket as other adult content.
The original TechCrunch report was not directly retrieved for this post — the rule is reported here as reported by TechCrunch, and the details should be checked against Apple’s official App Store guidelines when they are published.
