OpenAI co-founder and president Greg Brockman has said the company could be ready for an initial public offering in 2027. He made the comments at a Wall Street Journal tech conference in Napa, California, on 4 November 2026.

What Brockman said

  • Asked whether OpenAI would be IPO-ready next year, he replied: “I think so. Yes.”
  • “We’ve been very clear this year that we want to go public when we feel is the right time for us, and I feel extremely good about the business,” he added
  • Enterprise customers now make up the majority of OpenAI’s revenue, up from about 30% earlier — with enterprise sales doubling and annualised revenue growing 70% in the third quarter of 2026

What is NOT decided

  • No listing date, exchange or offering price has been set — Brockman expressed confidence about readiness, not a commitment to list in 2027
  • OpenAI filed a confidential draft S-1 with the US Securities and Exchange Commission in June 2026, but later decided a 2026 listing was too soon
  • The company has secured about $11 billion in commitments for its latest funding round, well short of its original $30 billion target
  • Rival Anthropic is expected to go public before the end of 2026
