The Himachal Pradesh government’s Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojana gives ₹1,500 a month to eligible women in the state. The money is paid directly into the woman’s bank account. If you are a woman living in Himachal Pradesh, here is what the scheme offers, who can apply, and how to apply.

What the scheme gives

  • ₹1,500 per month, paid through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) into the beneficiary’s bank account.
  • The scheme is run by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Himachal Pradesh.
  • About 42,000 women were already receiving the amount as of August 2025, and the state has set aside about ₹800 crore a year for the scheme, with around 5 lakh women expected to benefit once it covers the whole state.

Who can apply

The scheme is for women who are permanent residents of Himachal Pradesh. The age and income conditions have been applied differently in different districts and phases, so check the exact condition at your Tehsil Welfare Officer before applying:

  • Age: Most scheme guides list 18 to 59 years as the eligible age group. Some reports on later phases mention 21 to 60 years. The condition that applies to you depends on the phase running in your district.
  • Income: In the current rollout, the annual family income limit is reported as up to ₹2.5 lakh a year. The limit has also been reported as ₹2 lakh in some districts. Confirm the exact figure at the welfare office.
  • Other conditions: The woman should not already be receiving a similar monthly pension or honorarium from the government. Widows, single women and women from economically weaker families are among the intended beneficiaries.

Because the conditions vary by district and phase, do not take any single figure as final — the Tehsil Welfare Officer or District Welfare Officer will confirm what applies in your area.

How the scheme started

The scheme was first launched in 2023, starting with women in Lahaul-Spiti district. It was renamed the Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojana on 13 March 2024. It has been extended district by district since then — for example, women in Kinnaur district were included from 1 April 2026.

How to apply

There is no official website and no online application form for this scheme. Applications are accepted offline only:

  1. Visit the office of the Tehsil Welfare Officer or District Welfare Officer in your district.
  2. Ask for the application form for the Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojana.
  3. Fill in the form and attach the required documents — usually proof of age, proof of permanent residence in Himachal Pradesh, income certificate, bank account details and Aadhaar.
  4. Submit the form at the welfare office and keep the acknowledgement.
  5. Once approved, the ₹1,500 a month is credited directly to your bank account.

Do not pay anyone who promises to get your name added to the list, and do not fill any form on a website claiming to be the scheme’s official portal — there is no official online portal for this scheme.

What this means for you

₹1,500 a month is ₹18,000 a year — meaningful support for a woman running a household on a low income. If you are eligible, apply at your nearest welfare office with your documents ready. If you are not sure whether the age or income condition applies to you, ask at the office rather than assuming you are not eligible.
