US Treasury yields fell on Friday morning as investors moved money out of stocks and into government bonds after Thursday’s sharp tech sell-off.
The 10-year Treasury yield was trading at about 4.84% in the Asian morning on Friday, 6 November 2026, near its lowest level since 10 September. It closed at 4.85% on Thursday, down about 9 basis points on the week. The 2-year yield, which reacts more to interest-rate expectations, fell about 10 basis points overnight to 4.47%, and closed the week at 4.48%, down 13 basis points. The 30-year yield was largely flat at about 5.31%.
These are Friday-morning snapshots, not closing levels — yields move through the day.
Why investors moved to bonds
Thursday was the worst day for US stocks in nearly 19 months. The Nasdaq Composite fell 5.52%, the Nasdaq-100 fell 6.4%, the S&P 500 fell 4.36% and the Dow fell 3.44%. The trigger was the Democratic sweep of Congress in the midterm elections, and fears of tighter scrutiny of the artificial intelligence industry, especially around data-centre construction. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell more than 12%.
The equity rout pushed investors towards haven assets. The dollar held steady against major currencies, and the yen strengthened.
What it means for interest rates
Bond traders also changed their view of the Federal Reserve. Fed funds futures cut the probability of a 25-basis-point interest-rate hike in December to around 70%, from more than 80% on Wednesday.
What comes next
The next big event is the US October jobs report, due today at 19:00 IST (8:30 AM ET). A Reuters poll expects about 65,000 jobs added in October, after 29,000 in September, with unemployment steady at 4.2%. The actual figures are not out yet — this post does not state them.
Thursday’s weekly jobless claims, released before the jobs report, fell by 6,000 to 189,000, the lowest since July and below the 196,000 economists expected.
