The 3 November 2026 US midterm elections produced a series of historic firsts — all projected from unofficial returns, not yet certified results.

The firsts

  • Keisha Lance Bottoms (Georgia) — projected to become the first Black woman governor in US history
  • Hakeem Jeffries — in line to become the first Black Speaker of the House
  • Abdul El-Sayed (Michigan) — projected to become the first Muslim elected to the US Senate
  • Gina Hinojosa (Texas) — projected to become the first Hispanic governor of Texas, and the first Democrat governor there in more than 30 years
  • Peggy Flanagan (Minnesota) — projected to become the first Native American woman in the US Senate
  • Chris Pappas (New Hampshire) — projected to become the first openly gay man in the US Senate
  • Julianna Stratton (Illinois) — Illinois is projected to become the first state with two women of colour in the Senate at once

The honest caveat

Every result here is a media projection based on unofficial returns. Final certified results may differ.
