Airbnb will launch its own AI travel agent in the first half of 2027, the company announced on 5 November 2026 in its third-quarter shareholder letter.
What the AI agent will do
- It is not a normal chatbot. Airbnb says it will build a personalised interface around your question, designed for travel
- It will help with planning trips, comparing listings and booking stays
- It will also handle post-booking support — reservation changes, payment problems, refunds, rebooking and 24-hour safety help
- Airbnb also plans to open its platform to outside AI agents through the MCP protocol
Strong quarter behind the announcement
- Q3 revenue: $4.87 billion, up 19% on last year — its fastest growth in more than three years, and ahead of the $4.75 billion Wall Street expected
- Net income: $1.89 billion, up 38%
- Gross booking value: $27.7 billion, up 21%; nights booked rose 16% to 155 million
- Airbnb raised its 2026 revenue growth forecast from the mid-teens to the high teens
- CEO Brian Chesky told analysts: “Airbnb is back in growth mode.”
