The government has kept interest rates on all small savings schemes unchanged for the October–December 2026 quarter. The Finance Ministry’s Department of Economic Affairs announced the rates on 30 September 2026 — the tenth quarterly review in a row with no change.
The rates for October–December 2026
- Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY): 8.2% — the joint-highest rate, for parents of a girl child under 10
- Senior Citizens Savings Scheme (SCSS): 8.2%, paid quarterly, 5-year term
- National Savings Certificate (NSC): 7.7%, 5-year term
- Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP): 7.5%, money doubles in 115 months

- Monthly Income Scheme (MIS): 7.4%
- Public Provident Fund (PPF): 7.1%, 15-year term
- Recurring Deposit, 5 years: 6.7%
- Post Office Savings Account: 4%
What savers should know
- PPF has paid 7.1% since April 2020 — more than six years without a change
- PPF and Sukanya Samriddhi rates can change at any quarterly review, and the new rate applies to your whole balance
- NSC, KVP, SCSS, time deposits and RDs lock in the rate on the day you invest, for the full term
- PPF interest is tax-free, while interest on SCSS, NSC and post office deposits is taxable
- The next review, for January–March 2027, is usually announced in the last days of December
