Prime Minister Narendra Modi met India’s Asian Para Games medallists in New Delhi on 5 November 2026, celebrating the country’s best-ever performance at the Games — a record 114 medals, including 30 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze.
The record haul
- 114 medals in total — 30 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze — at the Asian Para Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan (18–24 October)
- India’s previous best was 108 medals at the 2023 Games in Hangzhou
- 97 athletes won medals for India, including double gold medallists Sheetal Devi and Simran
- The team set 5 world records and 9 Asian records
- 34 of India’s 56 women athletes won medals
From 14 medals to 114
Modi told the athletes that India had come a long way — from just 14 medals, including one gold, in 2010 to 114 this time. He said the journey was the result of their hard work and a stronger sports ecosystem, and urged them to now aim for the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
