Indian stock markets will open for a special one-hour session on Sunday, 8 November 2026, for Muhurat trading — the traditional Diwali trading session that marks the start of the new Hindu financial year, Samvat 2083. This year the session is in the afternoon, not the evening.

Muhurat trading 2026: the full schedule (IST)

  • Block deal window: 1:50 PM to 2:05 PM
  • Pre-open session: 2:05 PM to 2:20 PM
  • Continuous trading: 2:20 PM to 3:30 PM
  • Closing Auction Session (CAS) securities: continuous trading ends at 3:15 PM, followed by the closing auction
  • Post-close session: 3:50 PM to 4:00 PM
  • The schedule is the same on NSE and BSE, and was announced through NSE circular NSE/CMTR/76941 and BSE notice 20261019-9, both dated 19 October 2026

What is Muhurat trading?

Muhurat trading is a short, symbolic trading session that the exchanges hold every year on Diwali Laxmi Pujan. Traders believe that buying shares during this auspicious hour brings prosperity for the year ahead. BSE has held a Muhurat session since 1957, and NSE adopted the practice after it began operations.

What is new this year

  • This is the first Muhurat session since the Closing Auction Session (CAS) was introduced on 3 August 2026 — so F&O-linked stocks will stop continuous trading at 3:15 PM and go through an auction instead
  • Regular trading remains closed on Sunday — only this special session is open
  • All trades made during the session carry normal settlement obligations, settled on the next business day, Monday, 9 November 2026
