Gold prices rose sharply in India just before Dhanteras, with buyers rushing to jewellery shops for the festival. Dhanteras falls on Friday, 6 November 2026, and is traditionally one of the biggest gold-buying days of the year.

The prices on 4–5 November

  • Delhi gold (99.9% purity): Rs 1,46,600 per 10 grams on 4 November, up Rs 4,800 in a single day from Rs 1,41,800, according to the All India Sarafa Association
  • Delhi silver: Rs 1,93,000 per kilogram, up Rs 9,000 from Rs 1,84,000 in the previous session
  • 24-carat gold in Delhi: about Rs 14,617 a gram on 5 November, or roughly Rs 1,46,170 per 10 grams; 22-carat gold, the purity most jewellery is made in, was about Rs 1,34,000 per 10 grams
  • IBJA benchmark: the India Bullion and Jewellers Association put 10 grams of 24-carat gold at about Rs 1.44 lakh on 5 November, up Rs 2,328 on the day
  • Global gold: spot gold rose 1.6% to $4,124.89 an ounce on 5 November, touching $4,146.63 earlier in the session — its highest level since 20 October

Why prices rose

Festive-season buying ahead of Dhanteras lifted demand, and a sharp recovery in international gold prices pushed Indian rates higher. Gold had corrected about 8% from its October peak before this week’s rally, and the metal is still well below its 2026 high of around Rs 1.76 lakh per 10 grams touched in January.

What buyers should know

  • Gold rates differ by city and by purity, and the prices above exclude GST and making charges — always confirm the live showroom rate before buying
  • Silver has fallen sharply from its January peak of about Rs 3.86 lakh a kilo, and was about Rs 1.88 lakh a kilo on 5 November by IBJA rates
  • Buying on Dhanteras is a tradition, but prices move every day, so a rate quoted in the morning may change by the evening
